Writing is an essential part of Karen’s life. She realized this when her 11th grade teacher expressed to her how much of a gift she has in writing and that she should pursue this gift instead of becoming a psychiatrist. Karen is the middle of three siblings. Being the middle child has its own challenges. You have to fight or do things very entertaining to get the attention that was so readily given to the oldest and youngest sibling. Being that Karen was not only the middle child, she was extremely shy. To avoid unnecessary attention you could find her with her head buried inside of a book. In those books is where she’d escape the trials and the stigma that came with being the “middle” child. Each story afforded her a journey into the lives of each the animated characters that she read about. This is when she fell in love with reading and developed an even stronger desire to write to create her own stories, characters, places, escape.
Karen’s been writing for many years. Whether it was a school project, church project she expressed herself through every syllable that was written on paper and she received much praise for them. Her high school teacher was so taken aback by a paper she had written that he used her paper as a grid for the other students to follow. He also submitted her paper into the school’s newspaper. After receiving such encouragement, again, Karen went on to pursue anything and everything that had to do with writing. This book and future books have been in her heart waiting for God to bring them forth. Over twenty years Karen has been waiting and training for this opportunity to share what God has put in her heart with those who want to hear. While waiting to express her gift of writing she hasn’t been sitting around idol minded. She and her sister, Monica R Lett, started a grass roots production company where they’ve been working on documentaries,Burnt Out, Turned Out, Smoked Out and Little Darlings. It’s been seven years in the making. Burnt Out is a documentary about young sherm/PCP addicts who basically live their lives to get high at any cost! Little Darlings focuses on toxic relationships between mothers and daughters. This toxic relationship causes young ladies and young men to run to the streets in search of love and nurturing that they didn’t receive from their mother. Trailers for both documentaries can be viewed on their Youtube channel, Makinthamovie.
Karen’s desires, through her writing, to show that she understands all too well the temptations and ungodly distractions that people can knowingly and unknowingly become exposed to that will eventually destroy their lives. But she is here to not only shed light on these traps, snares and temptations, she also wants to show her readers that even though you were steered down the wrong road God will always provide a way out.
